Safe Home Environment Assessment Tool

The Safe Home Environment Assessment (SHEA) is designed to help identify risk behaviours or individual preferences that may need to be considered in the physical environment.

The physical environment is only one component of what may constitute a “capable environment” for an individual but may be an important factor in ensuring potential risk issues are reduced and sensory preferences are considered in the design of a home.

Below is a link to a webinar which explains the tool in more detail and goes through each section in more detail which will help with information gathering prior to completion of the tool.

The tool is freely available to Occupational Therapists working with adults or children with learning disabilities and we would be grateful for your feedback as users so we can continue to develop and improve both this tool and future planned projects. We would however ask that the tool not be altered or shared with others without the authors permission.
